Light Optimizes Silicone Surfaces.
Made possible by VUV radiation.

Silicone is a really versatile material: flexible, stretchable and yet temperature-resistant. In addition, it is biocompatible, which means it is compatible with living beings, so it can be used as an implant, for example. In the untreated state, however, the surface is quite sticky, which does not only feel uncomfortable, but it also attracts a lot of dust and dirt.
There is a simple remedy for this: vacuum ultraviolet radiation (VUV).
It smooths the surface of the material - more precisely: You can use VUV to change the surface as required without changing the basic material properties, so that, for example, this surface becomes dirt-repellent or does not wear out so quickly. Processing with previously unusable adhesives becomes also possible.
In our Radium TECH division you will find the right radiation sources in the product range of UV ecximer lamps. You will also find products for IR technology in Radium TECH. Our specialists there will be happy to support and advise you on this topic as well as on our production options.
Radium also cooperates with the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Applied Materials Research (IFAM). A detailed article on VUV excimer technology in surface treatment of silicone can be found here:
