IR VariantenShort Wave

The thermal process using short-wave infrared technology (near infrared) is a process ideally suited to the material and efficiency. Materials have an absorption maximum, where the radiation is converted directly into heat. Many of the substances show this maximum within a wavelength range near the visible light, starting at about 800 nm. By working in this wavelength range, it is possible to heat up materials in a matter of seconds. Moreover, it can be influenced by a slight shift in the wavelength, whether only the surface or an entire body should be heated in the process time. When working with several components, heat can only be selectively transferred to one of the substances. This advantage is used especially in coating processes. Other technologies are not able to act in a material-specific way, and they also require more time to bring the materials up to temperature.

In order to reach highest possible efficiencies, a short-wave range is indispensable in many processes. This requires a halogen cycle process within the emitters in order to be able to operate them as long-lasting as possible and in a particularly resource-saving manner.

The high efficiency of this technique, however, not only follows from the absorption properties of the materials to be heated, but also in conjunction with the atmosphere. In contrast to all other processes, it is not necessary to use a transmission medium with infrared technology. In other heating methods, for example, first the air is heated, which in turn heats the material. This does not happen lossless and makes these processes inefficient and not environmentally friendly. In short-wave infrared radiation, however, the environment remains completely unaffected by the radiation and only the body is heated. This physical property makes shortwave infrared emitters unsurpassed in their efficiency.
